Jay-Z Bloody Sunday/Heart Of The City

I like to take some of the credit for this, via Green Lantern's Twitter he released
this Bloody Sunday Version of Jay-Z performing Heart of The City in 2006.
I was due to meet with Bleek to record a song but I had been in contact with Green about what music he was going to play at the show and I told he couldn't go wrong with U2. This was the result and for those that don't know...thats my Celtic Scarf. There was some rumors on the net that it was Scottish rock band Mogwai that gave him that scarf but get it right. Lenny S from Def Jam took that picture in Dublin and it was yours truly who gave him that gift.

Fagan Vs Hyland

I did the ringwalk for Oisin in his fight for the super featherweight IBF International title in the Tallaght Basketball Arena on Saturday night.
I have to say it was a thriller of a brawl. You will be waiting a long time before you see a better bout in an Irish ring.

Oisin gave it his all and lost (another) controversial decision. The Judges gave it so wide to Hyland it was beyond belief and although you could not have complained if either man was hailed the victor it was gut-wrenching to be in with the Fagan camp when the 118-111 116-112 and 118-110 in favour of Hyland. Most of the journalists ringside had it as a draw or a more realistic 115-113 to Hyland, who may have just looked the busier in the middle rounds to sway it as Oisin's eye jammed shut.

Oisin was the aggressor for the whole night and forced proceedings as Hyland appeared to wilt in the last round, He landed countless head and body shots in an attempt to force a stoppage. The entire arena got to their fight to applaud was being lauded as the Irish version of Gatti-Ward.

The Amercians who were in attendance were equally impressed and the immediate talk was of a rematch, and a rematch on an American TV Network, both fighters have already said they would do it again if the money was right and trust me, if you had paid to see them on Saturday you would have gotten your money's worth.

I don't know what comes next for Oisin, I said to him after the fight if he didn't have bad luck he would have no luck at all. The journalists have gone on record to show he has lost highly controversial decisions to Paul Spadafora and Vernon Kimborough and then there was the Khan legbreak heartbreak and most felt he was capable of taking the title on Saturday but at 35 he is clearly going to be contemplating his next move.

I said to him he should continue, he has not taken any real hidings and although he lacks skill and ring craft due to his forced late start in to the sport he really is an exciting fighter and against the right opponents can get another few paydays before calling it quits.

The fight is going to be shown on Setanta Ireland for the next two nights @ 10 p.m so make sure to catch it

Get Well Soon Big John Hartson

I was shocked to hear the recent news that former Celtic striker has been struck down with testicular cancer that has spread to his lungs and brain. Big John was one of my favourite players to ever play for the hoops and the attitude, strength and determination that he showed while scoring almost 90 goals for the club will help him at this time.

Out of all famous people over the years I have met I have never really wanted any autographs and I only possess three people's autographs, Henrik Larsson, Jay-Z and big John Hartson. My friend got me his signed shirt that he wore against Dunfermline a few years back and It is one of my prized possessions.

Like all Celtic fans and fans of football in general, my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this time and we hope he can make a speedy recovery

Join The "CRU"

Big Shout out to Sean & Richie & Nate et al who have re-opened my favourite clothing store (Connected) under the new guise of "CRU"

"CRU" sees the guys continue their run as a clothes store/tattoo parlour in their own right and the lads have taken over ownership from Mitch who is now concentrating on the Connected Tattoo shop in Templebar.

I have a special bond with the store and the lads (pause) as it is where I shot my video for Dropkicked, where I got tatted and indeed where I have been to just to hang out on almost every time I visit Dublin in the daytime.

The store is also a popular hang out spot for any DJ or MC who visit these shores and everyone from Memphis Bleek, Icon The Mic King, Talib Kweli to Statik Selektah have passed through the doors so you never know who you might see in there.

The staff support me in everything I do and come to see me almost every time I play and have hooked me up with clothing sponsors and helped me out wherever they can. They've all gotten "CRU" Tatts done so you can see how much it means to them all in there, It's not just a store it's a lifestyle.

I really couldn't wish success and a sounder group of people so make sure you pass through and spend some of your dole money/wages getting fresh in CRU on Abbey Street.

Oisin Fagan Vs Eddie Hyland

My man Oisin Fagan will take on Eddie Hyland for the vacant IBF International super-featherweight title at the National Basketball Arena in Dublin on July 25.

I was in London last December when Oisin broke his leg in the first round of his fight against Amir Khan in the o2 arena and I know how disappointed he has been about the performance and circumstances surrounding that evening.

I will be doing Ois' ringwalk for this event and will no doubt be performing my music alongside him as he makes his way to the ring. I have known Oisin for a while now and have even been in his corner before while he was fighting.

Ois is a latecomer to the sport, turning pro fighter out of necessity due to financial hard times in Oklahoma and is back living in Ireland now, he needs this more than anyone and I have no doubt he can do something special on the night

R.I.P Lunitic

I was shocked and saddened yesterday to learn that Lunitic from Ballymun rap group Urban Intelligence had passed away. I first met Luni about 5 or 6 years ago in Dublin's Templebar Music Centre at a Jam/Practice session for M.C's around Christmas Time.

Everybody knows about our well publicized exchange of Dis tracks a few years ago, A situation that at the time seemed to mean so much but when you hear news like this is really put in perspective.

Regardless of the situation between us, I always admired his style and talent and his love for hip-hop. I thought their version of Damien Dempsey's "Patience" was as raw and as brilliant a piece of Irish Hip-Hop as has been recorded, but the more recent cover or "Rocky Road to Dublin" and the tribute to his father "My Ol Man"
were what really made me sit up and see him as the artist he was.

I hadn't seen him since the beef until last December where we shook hands @ Billy Jam's radio show and put that situation in the past.

It goes without saying now but his music will live on and my thoughts and condolances go out to his family, friends and fans.

Jay-Z comes out @ Summerjam

Hot 97's Summerjam is the biggest outdoor hip-hop event in the world that takes place in NYC every summer @ Giants Stadium. Jay-Z's legacy at being the Summerjam "Place Shutter Down" has been complete for many years from first addressing 50 Cent's "How to Rob" with "I'm about a dollar what the f*ck is 50 cents?" to bringing out Big Daddy Kane, Michael Jackson and of course the infamous Nas dis and "Summerjam Screen" incident (Where he put Prodigy of Mobb Deep on blast in a ballerina's costume) - well he has been absent for a few years but came out last night (pause) to perform "The Death of The Autotune" and I wish I had been in New York to see it. The song debuted this weekend on Hot 97 and in my opinion its what hip-hop needs right now.

Shout out to Billy Jam

Billy Jam:

"I'm not old. I'm old school," insists Irish immigrant Billy Jam who fell in love with hiphop back in the late seventies when he first got to New York. Since then, he has dedicated himself to supporting the art form of hip hop through various forms of media.
"I look at media, be it print, radio, Internet, television, or whatever as all the same thing: just another way to get your message across," says Jam who started as a radio DJ in 1984 on KALX, Berkeley, CA. In 1987 he added journalism to his media assault, with publications including: The Source, BOMB, Vibe, XXL, CMJ, No Joke, Stealth, Rap Pages, San Francisco Chronicle, SF Weekly, and The SF Bay Guardian.
In 1998, he began producing music with an emphasis on DJ/turntablist music and founded the HiphopSlam label and website. Currently living in New Jersey, the part-time journalist hosts the hugely popular 'Put The Needle On The Record' weekly show on the world-reknowed WFMU radio station and performs and records with the turntablist ensemble Djs of Mass Destruction. He was also featured in Doug Pray's highly acclaimed documentary Scratch (2001).

R.I.P HHC

Legendary UK Magazine Hip-Hop Connection recently announced they are going out of print. I suppose this is a sign of the times with the rise of the internet/current economy taking its toll on print media. I grew up on this, my uncle Eddie used to send me this every month from London when I was 14 and back before the internet, the only outlets for a youngster in Wexford to hear Hip-Hop music were Westwood's show on Radio 1 and Yo MTV Raps so their review section was vital when it came to ordering (yes ordering, not that many music stores in Wexford were carrying hip-hop releases) the latest albums.

It was kind of an honour to get a full page few years back

Big Up Andy Cowan

R.I.P Big L

Big L was ten years dead yesterday (Feb 15th 99)
and most of the big websites and blogs overlooked the anniversary which is a shame as simply put he was one the greatest m.c's of all time, the wizardry of his wordplay still amazes me to this day and to say he was ahead of his time is an understatement.

Back in the days of taping Westwood's Radio 1 Show he was the number one rewind button breaker because you could genuinely not believe how good he was.
